National Coming Out Day is a day to celebrate the beauty of being true to yourself,  having the courage to share an important part of your life with others, and for celebrating those who may come out to you. Rather than being perceived as exposing oneself or confessing something, we should see coming out as a marker of coming into our identity, and allowing others to share in that knowledge.

Coming Out Day isn't just reserved for those who choose to share who we are as LGBTQ+ people with others. Regardless of one's sexuality or identify, ANYONE can "come out," sharing an important aspect of WHO we really are with others, authentically, releasing shame and guilt. Whatever that is for you, it can be a life-changing, loving and freeing experience.

Over the last couple of decades there has been huge progress for the LGBTQ+ community, with legislation on same-sex marriage, discrimination laws, and educational reforms all helping to protect and support LGBTQ+ people. However, many of those rights are being threatened or taken away! There's never been a more important time than NOW to send a message to anyone who's struggling to "come out" that they matter, that their life is precious and they absolutely deserve to live a beautiful life worth living.

No one learning to love and accept themselves for who they are should have to receive messages from the world around them that there's anything wrong with them, simply for being who they are. For so many in our LGBTQ+ communities around the world, it can still be scary and dangerous to simply express honestly who they are.

Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ or are a loving ally (thank you!) celebrating National Coming Out Day is an important way to raise the visibility of our communities: reminding us all of the ongoing struggles LGBTQ+ people face just for being themselves, but also of the joy and pride of being open to being fully who we are.

THANKS FOR BEING WITH US!

Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your journey, we appreciate you!
